Be yourself.
Life is precious as it is.
All the elements for your happiness are already here.
There is no need to run, strive, or struggle.
Just be.
-Thich Nat Hahn
I was lead to yoga in the spring of 1998 when I "fell upon" an open house at a local yoga studio. When i walked in, I knew little about yoga except that it was some form of physical movement done in bare feet on a sticky mat. Yet with the little I knew walking in, something that day touched me and I was never the same again.
That beautiful spring day was my beginning to a life of wholeness. I had been facing many emotional and spiritual challenges at the time (back then I likened my aura to the stench that surrounds the character Pigpen from Charles Schulz's Peanuts Gang).
I quickly found that the yoga mat was the perfect place for me to break through the barriers that were keeping me unhappy and stuck. What started as one beginner's class that Saturday morning turned into five classes a week.
I was addicted! Not to the yoga practice itself, but to the transformation that yoga opened me up to.
What started as a spiritual cleansing grew into a way of being. For me, yoga has become a doorway to my soul - a practice of asana (postures), pranayama (breath), and meditation that opens my inner being to the spiritual realm beyond my physical body.
