I long, as does every human being, to be at home wherever I find myself.
-Maya Angelou
I came to yoga because I was looking for a softer way. For years I had pushed myself hard — physically and emotionally. When the results weren’t as swift or certain as I thought they should be, I would quickly become frustrated and move on to the next big thing that was supposed to fix it all. In my world, if it didn’t happen immediately, it was probably because I wasn’t trying hard enough or doing it the right way.
Yoga has helped me slow down, find acceptance in the moment, and begin to release my leanings toward perfectionism. This gentle unwinding brings me to an ever deepening understanding of myself and my physical and emotional patterns.
For me, practicing and teaching yoga are acts of creativity and joy. I tend toward a gentle, meditational style with longer held postures using props for support, in order to gain new insight and release old energies in the physical, emotional, and spiritual planes. I believe there are many, many layers to yoga, and in any given class, no two people are ever at exactly the same place. I welcome students who are new to yoga as well as those with more experience, in the hope that everybody will discover something new about themselves and their abilities.
When I’m not on the mat, I enjoy reading about yoga, learning new things, creative & artistic pursuits, spending time with my partner, and playing with our cat, who gets only mildly annoyed.
