"the Pavarotti" of kirtan. --Yoga Journal
For nearly a decade now, Krishna Das has been synonymous with kirtan (Sanskrit chanting), laying the soundtrack to yoga practices worldwide. KD is to this ancient method of musical devotion what Bruce Springsteen is to rock 'n' roll: an unmistakable, humbled voice, a trusted source for inspiration and practicality. Just like the impact of a five-hour sold-out Springsteen concert, no one forgets their first live Krishna Das performance: his powerful simplicity continuously transforms ordinary moments into un-freaking-forgettable breathtaking experiences. --Global Rhythm

What's the difference between a kirtan and a workshop?
|
|
For anyone who has attended a Kirtan with Krishna Das you've probably experienced emotions that have ranged from love to bliss to release to grief to tears to joy to surrender to transcendence …The list goes on.
Personally, for me what is evoked in his kirtans is always changing and unpredictable. Yet gratitude seems to be the common theme that radiates throughout all of my experiences. If you've been to a kirtan with KD in the past, you probably enjoyed the anecdotes he shared about his life, his singing and his experiences on the spiritual path. The depth of a workshop is a bit different from the kirtan experience. Although there is still much chanting, we are also blessed with more detailed anecdotes and stories about KD's life, his experiences with his Guru, Neem Karoli Baba, and the ups and downs of spiritual practice. Those stories can be very powerful or emotional, regardless of what spiritual practice/lineage you follow. The depth of some rather simple stories may not hit you until days, weeks, or even months later, as has been my experience.
During workshops, participants have the opportunity to ask KD questions. You can ask personal questions about your own path or challenges, or more general questions about spiritual practice. And KD always answers honestly! And often with humor!
For me, the real gift of being in a workshop with him is that I always leave able to love myself a little bit more. I am reminded by KD that I don't have to go searching for that great Love outside of myself, and I often walk away with a little more faith that the Love really is inside.
Logistics of the workshop itself: There may be more chanting than talking…or more talking than chanting. It's kind of unpredictable and often depends on the energy of the crowd. Sometimes the talks/questions can be serious, other times more humorous. You never know. Try to come with an open heart. If that feels hard, then just try to be open to the mere idea of your heart opening in response an evening full of love and potential. ~Amanda Feinstein |
