Chuck Brittain


Chuck has been practicing yoga since he impulsively walked in to a yoga class at a gym in 2001. After experimenting with several styles of yoga, he was introduced to the Ashtanga practice by Tommy Moss, formerly of Atlanta Yoga. Chuck accidently fell into teaching as he began to substitute teach for Tommy and eventually took over Tommy’s classes after he stopped teaching. Chuck continued his studies in the Ashtanga practice with Adele (Gale) Walsh and received a 40-hour 1st series teacher certification with David Swenson. He began moving forward with his Ashtanga teaching certification by attending a workshop in the 2nd series with David Williams.


However, Chuck’s practice took a life-changing fall from a ladder that shattered an elbow and injured his lower back. He soon found that the repetition of the Ashtanga practice aggravated the injuries, so he began to explore other practices that would allow him to modify for the injuries. The back injury introduced him to core strengthening by using Pilates. He also attended workshops that focused on adjustment, position modifications for injuries, as well as using partner yoga to modify a practice.

He began to introduce these different yoga and core practices in to his teaching style where he adapts the class to the energy and needs of the students. The teaching style quickly changed as he began to teach more off the mat so that he could work with students individually as needed.


Chuck has been teaching since 2005. His philosophy is that you should have joy in your practice and that sometimes we may take our practice so seriously that we lose the fun that should always be a part of it. Chuck wants to put the smile back on your face during your practice!
