CHRISTINA JOHNSON
Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health (200 hr) Teacher Training Lenox, MA Spring 2004
Fluid Power: Wave Motion within Yoga, Teacher Intensive with Shiva Rea, New York, NY Summer 2005
Christina's Bio:
Christina received her 200-hour training at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in the spring of 2004 and trained in Vinyasa Yoga with Shiva Rea in the spring of 2005. During a typical practice she advocates attunement to the Self so that even a heated Vinyasa has room for the student to meet - not conquer - their body. Whether focusing a vinyasa flow to follow the pulse and rhythm of breath or exploring the holding of a posture such as Downward Facing Dog, she invites her students to respond to the body as filled with fluid and to feel their way through movement without forcing change.
She approaches Vinyasa yoga from a foundation of breath and movement to create posture flows - or waves -- that build in strength and challenge. Pulsing, dynamic movements of flow are followed by standing and balancing postures to cultivate steadiness and discipline. Classes range in focus to include hip openers, backbends, twists, and inversions.
In addition to teaching yoga, Christina is taking course work at Georgia State University in preparation for a Master's in Occupational Therapy and works part-time at ITTS for Children. She loves visual arts, Hispanic culture, soul-time with friends, good movies, fire spinning, costume parties, healthy food, care-taking of the earth (including composting), and lots of big hugs!
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Christina has taught at gyms, universities and studios throughout the Atlanta area. She is currently teaching at Spelman College and Jai Shanti Yoga.
